Chicago — Peoples Gas unveiled Patrick (full name: Patrick Waffles), a golden retriever known for loving the outdoors, as its new safe digging “ambassadog.” Patrick’s new job title was announced at the Peoples Gas North Shop, where the pup proudly stood before cameras.
Patrick digs in all conditions of dirt and sand, and is a highly experienced outdoorsman. He loves camping, and once traveled nearly all of the Appalachian Trail. He also is gentle, sensitive and loving.
Patrick became Chicago’s safe digging ambassadog after entering the Peoples Gas “Doggone it!” contest in 2025. Six hundred dogs entered the contest, thousands of votes were cast, and Patrick’s sturdy paws and big smile made him the top dog. Patrick is featured in Peoples Gas promotional campaigns to raise awareness about safe digging and the importance of dialing 811 at least 48 hours before starting any digging project.
